This exquisite hand-painted Japanese plate features an intricate Moriage enamel design depicting Buddhist deities in richly detailed robes, accented with raised gold and enamel work. The scene is framed by a mountain landscape, adding depth and traditional symbolism to the composition. The plate’s earthy tones, delicate brushwork, and raised gilt detailing are characteristic of Satsuma-style porcelain, a highly decorative art form that became popular for export in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The mark on the back is a red “Koku” stamp, which suggests early-to-mid 20th century Japanese production, likely between the 1920s and 1950s. This type of marking was commonly used by smaller kilns that produced Satsuma-inspired pieces for export, blending traditional Japanese artistic themes with Western-influenced decorative techniques.

There is minor wear on the faces of two characters, a common sign of age in hand-painted Moriage pieces, where raised enamel details are more vulnerable to fading over time. Despite this, the plate remains a stunning collectible with a rich history and exceptional craftsmanship.

Perfect for collectors, Japanese art enthusiasts, or as a striking display piece, this plate embodies the elegance and detail of traditional Japanese ceramic artistry.
